The Hikari Club

LitchiHikari Club (ライチ☆光クラブ) is manga Illustrated by Usamaru Furuya and written by Norimizu Ameya.

It was first published in Japan on 2005 and later became licensed by Vertical Inc in English on 2011.

Plot[]

Nine boys form the Hikari Club, a group that slowly begins to resemble a twisted, fascist cult. In order to achieve their goals in punishing the adults that have stained their world they strive to build the ultimate Artificial Intelligence (later deemed Litchi/Lychee) in order to kidnap young girls. The proclaimed emperor of the club, Zera, is an attractive boy with twisted ambitions that has complete control of all of the members.

The original founder of the club, Tamiya, begins to doubt the club’s intentions and becomes displeased with the way Zera rules. In an attempt to reclaim the club from his grasps, the threads of the Hikari Club start to become undone, leaving everything to collapse in chaos and bloodshed.

The manga was adapted from a play originally written and performed by the Tokyo Grand Guignol theatre troupe in 1986. The original writer of the play, Norimizu Ameya, played the part of Jaibo and thus became the character's namesake. In 2012, the Litchi Hikari Club was revived as a stage play starring Ryo Kimura, Akiyoshi Nakao, and Yuki Tamaki.

In that same year it was announced that there would be an anime adaptation titled Litchi DE Hikari Club. The anime consists of eight short episodes and offers a comedic take on the characters and story line. (Full uploads can be found on YouTube)

There will be another stage show run in 2015 from December 18 through December 27 with a new cast.

A movie adaptation was (delayed) and released in the February of 2016 as well.
